10 best Precision Rifle cleaning kit products.
We have compiled a list of the top 10 best precision rifle cleaning kit products based on decades of experience and figuring out what works best and what doesn’t work at all, these are all must haves.
Before we begin let’s talk about bore snakes or pull through cleaning apparatus. If you own one, go find the heaviest rock you can comfortably carry. Got one? Good. Now go get the bore snake and tie that piece of garbage in a knot around the rock. Next time you go fishing throw the rock out of the boat and into the lake.
Follow this list and buy something that won’t wreck your crown thus destroying your accuracy potential.
Butch’s Bore Solvent
Butch’s should be your primary gun cleaning solvent, you use this first before getting to the other cleaning agents on the list. It is a non-abrasive solvent that loosens and removes powder and copper residue from the barrel with relative ease. When you are done you can just patch it out and the rifle is ready to go. If you still have copper residue in the barrel use J-B next, if it is really fouled use CR-10.
J-B® NON-EMBEDDING BORE CLEANING COMPOUND
J-B Bore paste was invented by Jim Brobst in the 1960’s for removing stubborn caked on burnt powder and residue from the bore in the throat area. It is a compound that is finer than jewelers rouge and removes all foreign substances from the bore without hurting the bore itself. This stuff is pure magic, it is a must have for any precision shooters cleaning kit. It is used by competition shooters world wide for the past 50 years. It is made in the USA and guaranteed for life.
Barnes Bullets Cr-10 Bore Cleaner
CR-10 is used for removing copper fouling from a barrel. It is Ammonia based and really stinks but there is nothing, and I mean nothing that works as well as it does for removing copper fouling. You also need to be careful and ensure you do not get it on anything plastic or the finish of the rifle stock as it will damage them, it is that strong. Also do not leave it in the barrel for more than 15 minutes as it has the potential to etch the barrel if left for extended periods of time. Barnes CR-10 is made in the USA
Dewey Rods Abs-3 Bore Saver Adjustable Rod Guide
This is a must have for rifle cleaning. The Dewey bore guide fits down the bolt raceway and is adjustable for the length of your action and keeps the cleaning solvents, residue and debris out of the action and trigger and also prevents the patch from getting snagged on the way into the bore and also protects the barrel throat. They are cost effective insurance and well worth the money and Dewey is the best bang for the buck. As with all Dewey products this is made in the USA.
Dewey Rods 1-Piece Cleaning Rod 22 to 26 Caliber Nylon Coated 8 x 36 Thread
If you shoot a rifle up to 26 caliber this is the rod you need. Dewey rods are coated to protect the rifle and bore from scratches and damage. If you have an un-coated rod do not use it! An un-coated rod is made of either aluminium, which when it ages starts to oxide, which is aluminum oxide (sand paper) or stainless which is as hard as the rifling in the barrel. All sorts of bad news for accuracy. Use Dewey, they are great and you don’t hurt anything with them and they fit nicely in the dragbag storage slot. Dewey rods are also made in the USA.
Dewey Rods 1-Piece Cleaning Rod 27 to 34 Caliber Nylon Coated 12 x 28 Thread
If you shoot a rifle over 26 caliber up to 34 caliber this is the rod you need.

Dewey Rods B-30 Bronze bore brush
The Dewey brush is a no harm brush, the center core is brass and is looped on the end so it is impossible to damage the bore of the rifle. The brush I listed is for 30 caliber but are available in every size. The bronze brushes are for use with the bore solvent such as Butch’s we listed above. Do not use these brushes for use with the copper solvent and they can give you a false positive for copper fouling. You are thinking it is copper in the bore but no, it is coming off of the brush. As with all Dewey products this is made in the USA.
Dewey Rods 30-NA Nylon bore brush
This Dewey brush is also a no harm brush, the center core is aluminium and is looped on the end so it is impossible to damage the bore of the rifle. This brush is the exception to the no aluminum cleaning implements rule but they do not come in brass and nylon. The brush I listed is for 30 caliber but are available in every size. The nylon brushes are for use with the copper removal bore solvent such as Barnes Cr-10 we listed above. These brushes are impervious to the ammonia in the CR-10. As with all Dewey products this is made in the USA.
